So THAT's How You Blog...

The idea of blogging came to me because my job requires me to write for two blogs at work - www.leatherxpert.blogspot.com and http://site.luxefurniture.com/emhe/PamsBlog.htm. Both of which have been nothing but a pain in my ass. It's hard to write about one specific industry when you have a very limited knowledge of it - and it's even harder to get psyched about learning of the said industry when you don't know where to start. Enter Google. Yup. Google. I entered a search of "furniture blog" and found an article from the New York Times examining the popularity of blogs on this very site and how people are using them for home furnishings and creating a place that consumers go to get honest opinions about fashions, trends and products. Mentioned in that article is another blog here at blogger - www.designsponge.blogspot.com. GO TO IT. GO TO IT NOW!!! First of all - it's exactly what I thought a blog should look like, it's very trendy, not too over-crowded with lots of pictures and links. The author has a genuine interest and passion for what she does and everything home furnishings so you can be sure what she's recommending is on the up and up and not some kind of sneaky sales pitch. I got loads of ideas just from this blog, found tons of sites to generate even more ideas and felt compelled to work harder at the blogs for both Leatherxpert and Luxe and my own. I may procrastinate on the reading of how to work this site for all it's worth but I will get there. In the meantime - the heart of blogging is really in the idea that you're writing for you - your likes, your interests and your own tastes and not catering to any certain demographic. Instead, the demographic comes to you. Genius.
