Too Much

There is so much coverage of the devastation that lay in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. So much coverage, that I felt I couldn't get a real perspective on all the destruction. But I was able to catch some video over at CNN, which gave an aerial view. It is absolutely devastating. I caught another piece of video from CNN, in which a man recounts losing his wife to the storm. Perched on the rooftop of their home, the waters split the entire structure in two - and his grip not strong enough to hold her, the man's wife said "You can't hold me...take care of the kids and the grandkids..." "I am lost." he said to a reporter who wiped tears from her eyes and struggled for what to say next. In the midst of it all...reports are coming out over the wires of persistent looting and shootings in the New Orleans area near the Superdome, where thousands took refuge from one of the worst natural disasters to strike American soil. My heart is heavy tonight, and with the people of Louisiana and Mississippi. *Excellent TIME photo essay here.
