The Most Wonderful Time of the Year

It took a little longer for it to hit me than usual this year... But it hit me. Big time. Just downstairs from our offices here, there's a Hallmark store that carries my supply of dire-emergency Starbucks Frappuccinos. Running downstairs today I walked in and was hit with the store's center display. It was a double display of orange and black candles from Yankee Candle. Right behind them, the seasonal Pumpkin Pie, Spiced Pumpkin and Gingerbread Spice Cookie candles. I left with a votive and immediately lit it upon returning to my office. It is fall. Halloween is near. Then comes Thanksgiving. And all the joys of home. Fall means baking, cooking and gathering together. Fall means good food, good wine and good movies. Fall means warmer clothes, opening the shades and quiet bouts of rainfall. Rushing to class while the wind whips through your hair and enjoying your time indoors near candlelight. Fall means everybody's house will smell a little nicer, feel a little warmer and glow a little brighter. Everything about fall makes me feel good and warm inside. Tonight, I will bust out the Halloween candle holders and tomorrow after class, I just might hit Target for fall-ish decorations. I'll do a little Fall cleaning and start my Hanukkah list. And much, much, more... It means I'll make more of my critically acclaimed Pumpkin Ravioli... It means I'll watch Home for the Holidays and Love Actually religiously... It means I'll light more candles... It means I'll give more... It means I'll be more inclined to hug... It means I'll read more... It means going to the mall and fighting through crowds of cranky people to get presents for the people you love. It means presents... It means kids will smell like leaves... I. Love. Fall. This fall is going to be better than all the others - at least I hope so. It means Madison will be here soon, the brothers will be home for a visit - and cranberry sauce in a can, you know, the kind that goes sschlop when it falls out in a can shaped mold. Most of all - it'll be better because as the years go by, I appreciate everything a little more than the year before. Here's to fall.

I loved this blog. It's one of my favorites. It makes me sad because I won't be going through a fall. But it gave me great memories and things to come!

Awwww, Sarah, I'm glad you liked it, it's one of my favorites too - and you know, I thought about you right after it too. You and my brother, because he doesn't get a fall either...Just find a restraunt that sells good pumpkin pie and go rent Home for the Holidays - it's a classic.

Leslie - HELL YEAH. I'm all about passing out some candy. And if I can get out of class and out of the gym in time tomorrow, I'll try to get to Starbucks before they close...
